The ROOTS Foundation of Trinidad & Tobago is a non-profit organization incorporated in 2009 with a mandate to develop spoken word poetry and other oral traditions as a catalyst for local, regional and global social change.
Through the preservation and promotion of oral traditions, our foundation connects generations and empowers young people to create positive futures for themselves, their families and their communities.
Points of Interest
- To revive the lost oral tradition of our ancestors;
- to sensitize the community of the need to continue this tradition;
- to provide a medium for the expressions of talented poets; and
- to provide a medium for educative and informative reading.
ROOTS Foundation is committed to reviving the oral traditions, promoting youth leadership and encouraging community development.
Using oral traditions and youth mentorship, ROOTS Foundation empowers our youth and our communities to enhance both their creative talent and leadership capabilities.
Organizational Structure & History
We’re a non-profit organization incorporated in November 2009 under the Companies Act, 1995 to facilitate the social arm of Reflections of Our Oral TraditionS (“ROOTS”), which was launched in September 2005. The Oral Tradition ROOTS Foundation was registered in June 2014, under The National Registry of Artists and Cultural Workers in the Fields of Endeavour, Promotion and Event Management.
